Lesson 1: The laziest band member - a guitarist

I remember myself learning guitar chords from some songbooks. Yeah, actually in almost every typical songbook from my teenage-hood I could find some kind of a list or a table on the last pages. I recommend you to get some too and learn it.

It will look like that:

Open chords
But what happened if some song was in a different key and I couldn't use chords I knew? My good friend showed me a CAPO (CAPODASTER) which helped me a lot to play the same chords but I could be more flexible. From that time I was not limited by the key. Finally, I could play along everyone.

Kyser CAPO

I have tried lot of cheap or good and also really good ones. Some cheap worked well with my guitar but not well with the band...

Now I will tell you why I think a guitarist is a laziest musician in a band! Because he doesn't have to know sharps (#] or flats (b), he doesn't have to bend his fingers, because there are open chords and CAPOs always available. But good musicians they know and understand music theory, because they found a math in it :-)

I was trying to experiment with my guitar. I used to play hours and hours everyday and I had a simple feeling that I and my guitar are ONE. Then it broke down. I put my fingers in a unique position and it sounded new. Fresh and awesome. After many years I learned that it already had a system. The name of this system is OPEN CHORD SYSTEM.

Chord Nr. 1# I like to play most is open E and progresions in major E.
Here we go:

OK, the conclussion of this 1st lesson is. Learn basics and use smart tricks to became an universal guitarist.
